Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some precious advice.
I’ve been working as a translator for the past 16 years and I’ve never purchased a CAT software, however, I’ve used it in the past (remotely with access from the agency I worked for).
I’ve just got a new position with an agency that requires Trados and I have to purchase it.
I have a Mac and I read that trados is not designed for it but there are ways around it.
My questions are the following:

No such thing as Trados Studio for Mac. You have to go the Parallels or VMWare way to virtualize Windows on your Mac as I do as many Mac users do. Costs you a Windows licence + Parallels licence but is worth every cent.

- Well, it's not sooo hard to learn or use, just have a look at those tutorials on YouTube and you can find a lot of help here on Proz. Just ask.
If it's worth is up to you to see.
FYI: there are other CAT tools you can process Studio files/packages (sdlxliff/sdlppx) with. You can import and export Studio packages and in my experience, as long as the agency can import your delivered files, there's no problems with agencies.

In my opinion it would be preferable - especially for a newbie - to use a CAT tool that is native to MacOS and very easy to learn, such as CafeTran, and does not require a Windows emulator (with all the associated complications and learning curves)

rather a virtualizer, quite a difference
(The main difference between them is that emulation is the computer program's ability in an electronic device to emulate the behavior of another program or device. On the other hand, virtualization is the process of creating a virtual instance of computer hardware platforms.)

I'm running Trados studio 2021 on Windows 10 on Parallels 16.5.1 on MacOSX 12.3.1 on a 2019 MacBook Pro. Haven't noticed any issues that might be related to this setup so far.

I looked at Memsource's Mac app. That's actually constructed using some cross-platform application toolkit (I forget the name). The result is an app that does run on MacOS, but has none of the look-and-feel. It feels a bit like a Linux app running on a windowing kit, or a Java app. It's "native", not native.
