Suddenly, my secondary display, an Apple Thunderbolt display, stopped working. It turned out that the Thunderbolt cable was damaged near the connector. This was surprising, as it had hardly ever bent in all its years of use.
Still, a solution was needed. A refurbished Thunderbolt display costs 250 €, and repairing my own display (by opening it up and connecting a new cable) would cost me 175 €.
YouTube to the rescue: I found a video of someone repairing their Thunderbolt display ... by connecting a Thunderbolt cable with two connectors. I ordered one from Amazon and couldn't wait to test it.
Last night, DHL delivered the cable, and I quickly unpacked it and connected it to my iMac and Thunderbolt display. The good news: everything worked fine.
