Source text - English A misconception abetted by the media is that evidence for genetic influence means that a single abnormal gene is responsible. When evidence is found for genetic influence on a disorder, the media often translates this to headlines about the gene for the disorder. Although there are thousands of rare disorders that show clear patterns of single-gene inheritance, most common medical and psychiatric disorders show no signs of single-gene or even major gene effects. Evidence from many quarters, including animal models, converges on the conclusion that most genetic influence on common and complex disorders involves multiple genes of varying effect size that contribute probabilistically to risk. Moreover, most of these genes are normal variations and not abnormal mutations. The recognition that complex traits involve multiple "susceptibility" genes, often involving variations on normal dimensions such as temperamental features or physiological reactivity, has led to new conceptions of molecular genetics strategies referred to as "quantitative trait loci" (QTL) (Plomin et al, 1994).

Source text - Spanish Google ha recibido ya más de 70.000 peticiones de internautas para retirar enlaces que les afectan en aplicación del derecho al olvido reconocido por el Tribunal de Justicia de la UE y ha comenzado a enviar notificaciones a páginas web para informarles de que va a dejar de mostrar en sus resultados determinados enlaces.
El pasado 30 de mayo publicó un formulario para que los usuarios europeos pudieran solicitar la eliminación de los resultados del buscador ligados a sus nombres. Según anunció entonces Google, cada petición sería analizada de forma individual.
La británica BBC ha sido la primera en encontrarse con un aviso de Google, anunciando que dejará de indexar un post escrito en 2007 en el blog Peston Picks, del periodista Robert Peston, sobre un antiguo jefe de inversiones de Merrill Lynch. Peston, autor de la pieza, ha escrito otro artículo en el que muestra su malestar contra la sentencia, que obliga a Google a borrar datos "insuficientes, irrelevantes o que ya no son relevantes" cuando un particular lo solicite
El periodista argumenta que el artículo sobre Stan O'Neal, exdirector de la firma de inversión, mantiene interés y no merece desaparecer: "un financiero de alto nivel, que sigue en el espectro público y que ha tenido un papel relevante en una de las peores crisis financieras que se recuerdan tiene que aparecer en los resultados". En su opinión esta medida servirá para acotar la libertad de expresión.

Source text - English The first Limited Overs International match was played in Melbourne in 1971, and the quadrennial cricket World Cup began in 1975. Many of the "packaging" innovations, such as coloured clothing, were as a result of World Series Cricket, a "rebel" series set up outside the cricketing establishment by Australian entrepreneur Kerry Packer.
There have been many memorable One Day Internationals played through the years - many of them in World Cup tournaments. Scores have virtually doubled with a new breed of stronger and younger combatants at the wicket. The introduction of Twenty20, a curtailed form of one- day cricket with 20 overs per side, in 2003 has proven very popular, and several Twenty20 matches have been played between national teams. It makes several changes to the usual laws of cricket, including the addition of a "bowl-out" (similar to a penalty shoot-out in football) to decide the result of tied matches.

Source text - Dutch Echte innovatiekracht ligt bij burgers en ondernemers. Veel bedrijven en instellingen weten dat de verduurzaming van de mobiliteit leidt tot kostenbesparingen, slimme innovaties en nieuwe markten. Duurzaamheid is dan ook geen beperking, maar een economische kans. Als minister wil ik voorwaarden scheppen. Bijvoorbeeld via het programma ‘Beter Benutten’: overheden en bedrijfsleven werken samen om reizigers en verladers bewust te maken van hun mobiliteitskeuze. Een kleien vermindering van het aantal auto’s in de spits heeft al een positief effect op de doorstroming op de weg. En dat heet weer positieve effecten voor de duurzaamheid. Een prachtig voor beeld is bierbrouwer Heineken, dat nu al distributie verplaatst van de weg naar de binnenvaart. Maar er is meer: in 2011 is het aandeel nieuwe zuinige auto’s toegenomen tot 45 procent. De verkoop van auto’s met energielabel A of B blijft stijgen. En in september 2011 heb ik vijf miljoen euro uitgetrokken om het rijden op waterstof in Nederland te stimuleren.
Daarnaast komen er steeds meer vulpunten voor schonere (bio)brandstoffen en reed 70 procent van de bussen in het OV vorig jaar op schonere brandstoffen. Verder werkt mijn ministerie met de branche aan schone motoren en oplossingen voor besparen van energie en CO2-uitstot. Samen kijken we ook naar de beladingsgraad: waarom met twee halfvolle vrachtauto’s de weg op als er ook een volle kan rijden? Tot slot rijden er de komende jaren ook meer elektrische voertuigen op de weg. Allereerst als taxi of deelauto en in het OV, daarna ook voor een grotere groep consumenten. Het afgelopen jaar zijn er al veel laad- en betaal punten bijgekomen. Dat aantal blijft groeien.

Source text - Dutch Vrijwel alle deskundigen zijn het er inmiddels over eens dat woningprijzen naar beneden gaan, maar de meningen zijn behoorlijk verdeeld over hoe lang de reeds ingezette daling zal gaan duren en hoe fors de daling zal zijn. Naar de mening van Maartje Martens zijn er duidelijke indicaties voor een langdurige en ernstige stagnatie van de koopwoningmarkt en voor een flinke daling van de woningprijzen. Een belangrijk deel van de indicaties is te vinden in een tot nog toe geheel onderbelicht aspect, namelijk de structuur van de koopwoningmarkt.
Stagnatie, terugval, impasse zijn begrippen die gebruikt worden voor de Nederlandse koopwoningmarkt sinds het najaar van 2008. In een brandbrief aan de regering vragen vrijwel alle betrokken marktpartijen om maatregelen. Deze analyse liegt er niet om: met name in de woningbouwproductie gaan harde klappen vallen. Van de geplande 85.000 woningen zullen er in 2009 hooguit 40.000 gerealiseerd worden en deze teruggang wordt vrijwel geheel toegeschreven aan de koopsector. In november zijn 40% minder woningen verkocht dan een jaar daarvoor en het aantal bezichtigingen is zelfs met 75% gedaald.
Toch gaan veel analisten ervan uit dat de Nederlandse woningmarkt gezond is en er momenteel sprake is van een normale fluctuatie. Zij achten een vrije val van woningprijzen onwaarschijnlijk en voelen zich daarin gesteund door marktindicatoren als rentestand, inflatie, inkomensontwikkeling en, niet te vergeten, het grote woningtekort. Zij verwachten een teruggang van de woningprijzen in Nederland van hooguit 10%. Het is volgens hen vooral van belang het vertrouwen van de consumenten in de woningmarkt niet negatief te beïnvloeden. Tot op dit moment is in officiële statistieken nog weinig merkbaar van een prijsdaling van woningen in Nederland, maar dat wil niet zeggen dat er niets aan de hand is.

Source text - English Child development psychologists have taken an enormous interest in gender role development in recent years and are beginning to unravel the "nature versus nurture" debate on how gender roles develop. It has been established that differences between the sexes are apparent from the first few days, with baby girls making more eye contact with their mothers, while baby boys find too much eye contact stressful and turn away more often. A few months later, when babies master smiles, again baby girls smile more and gurgle more at their parents' social overtures, such as handing them toys or making funny faces.
At such an early age, it is difficult to argue that these different characteristics are anything more than biologically driven. But external factors also come into forceful play. Parents, especially fathers, are better disposed towards male offspring. Fathers hold their new-born sons for longer periods than their daughters, and even stay longer in the delivery room to make sure their partners are well if they have given birth to a son. Women are more likely to breast-feed their sons than their daughters, and when they breast-feed both, daughters are more likely to be weaned earlier than sons. In an examination of Italian mothers breast-feeding habits, 66 per cent of mothers of girls breast-fed their babies, compared with 99 per cent of mothers of boys. The mothers' view seemed to be that boys needed to develop to be stronger, and that it was a basic maternal duty to give the son all he wanted. The daughters were not treated with the same importance and the reasons the mothers gave for not breast-feeding their daughters were that it was too time-consuming and constituted forced labour.
