Bio
My name is Laura García and I would like to offer my services as a professional translator specialised in audiovisual translation from English to Spanish.

My life has always been linked to language. Since I was very young, I knew it is not just a communication tool; it is an outlook on life. Knowing a language allows you to get to know the worldview which its native speakers hold. In this regard, teaching and translation stand out as relevant and suitable disciplines, as they can build bridges between diverse cultures.

Being aware of this advantage, I decided to work in the language teaching field: English mainly for teenagers in high schools; Spanish as a foreign language aimed at adults. I have been a teacher since 1987 and it turned out to be an enriching experience in many respects.

Nevertheless, translation, the other tool which facilitates cultural bridges, was always there.  Since my university years, I took an interest in it as a subject area and as potential professional work. Back then I started training in that field. Later, while I was working as a state school teacher, I took courses related to translation or joint courses in translation and teaching.

Since 2014 I have been devoting part of my time to translating documents for private individuals, above all in the scope of psychology, from articles on mindfulness, depression or anxiety to clinic psychological reports, including psychological assessment questionnaires and scales. Additionally, I collaborate with different organizations translating clinical and social information about immune-mediated diseases (in particular, lupus); educational dossiers on sexual and maternity education and on female genital mutilation; and reports on humanitarian projects.  I have also had the opportunity of translating for voiceover, especially reality shows (dating, crime, emergency), docuseries (Formula 1), cooking show; for subtitling (TV series), and for dubbing (animation).

My passion for cinema from a very young age and, in general, for the audiovisual industry were key when time came to embark on this new adventure. For this reason, I have received specific training in translation and cross-curricular training in the use of software for audiovisual translation, in particular, subtitling tools. Likewise, it is essential to get to know how VOD platforms work, as well as the requirements of their diverse projects, knowledge which I have recently acquired too.

The challenge to adapt an audiovisual product or a document to my culture motivates me and I find it very stimulating. If we take, in addition, my professional experience and my education into account, I am convinced that I can offer you the quality to which your company is used.
