O termo metalexicográfico cabeça do verbete não costuma ser usado em português, e, mesmo em outras línguas, seus equivalentes são pouco difundidos.
Trata-se da tradução literal do termo alemão Artikelkopf, introduzido por Wiegand (1988: 546ss.) e adotado, entre outros, por Al (1991: 2830) e Marello (1996: 42), que empregam a tradução francesa tête de l’article. Harvey & Yuill (1997) usam o termo top of the entry.
