Portuguese to English Social Sciences Mathematics & Statistics SPSS databases
This is European Portuguese, from a text on population surveys on urban rehousing projects, where information will be gathered/analyzed using an SPSS database.

"Os dados recolhidos, num total de 550 inquéritos, foram introduzidos numa base de dados SPSS, de acordo com a seguinte repartição: 450 inquéritos na base atitude, 29 na base inquilino, 30 na base dono e 41 na base realojado. "

My question: what specifically does the word "base" refer to in the above sentence, i.e. "base atitude, base inquilino, base dono, base realojado."?

Hi Luiza No, I unfortunately don't know anything specific about SPSS software... and I tried (unsucessfully) to research whether "base" migh refer to some sort of cateogry, like you suggest. Thus my Kudoz question...

Pelas características do software, acredito que cada categoria tenha sido alimentada em uma base de dados diferente, para que os dados possam ser analisados de acordo com cada categoria específica, e de forma a evitar desvios.

Então acredito que "450 inquéritos na base atitude, 29 na base inquilino, 30 na base dono e 41 na base realojado." refira-se a diferentes bases de dados, e não categorias dentro de uma base de dados. É comum a utilização do termo "base" para se referir a "base de dados".
