garden maintenance plan
This term appears under the column "tasks" in the "trees" section of a garden maintenance plan. Under "task description" it says "hoeing and weeding, decompression". I imagine (though not entirely sure) they are referring to the supports used for trees.

trough
(http://galhosbugalhos.blogspot.pt/2012/02/as-caldeiras-das-m... Pls see links below for more context. This would be a task, like "hoeing and weedin"... building a trough.

A trough dug "around" or "next" to a tree, not necessarily around it.
Example sentence:
you're planting a fiber pot, remember to cut off the top edge slightly below ground level. Carve a trough around the tree with a hoe about 18 in.-2 ft. from the ...
Then fill in the remainder of the hole, leaving a slight trough around the tree to catch rain.

: I think this is an iron grating/grid placed on the ground around the base of the tree. The trough would be a small ditch dug around it. I think they are different things.

Precisely, Mário, I used “trough” from personal experience. In my countryside “casinha”, my (local) neighbor taught me how to dig “caldeiras” for watering and “amanho/feeding”. I cannot imagine using gratings around trees there... Hence my suggestion! ;)
