- in the context given, i'd say your "mengakali" is better than "memperdaya".

- please note that the meaning of "to outsmart" or "to outwit" someone/something is "to get the better of" someone/something. superiority of intelligence, i.e. being smarter, may be part of the case but IS NOT part of the meaning.
