English term

ampacity

GBK English to Latvian Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
Definition from Energy Technologies, Inc.:
The current carrying capacity, expressed in amperes, of a conductor under stated thermal conditions.
Example sentences:
Though the melting point of copper theoretically imposes a limit on wire ampacity, the materials commonly employed for insulating conductors melt at temperatures far below the melting point of copper, and so practical ampacity ratings are based on the thermal limits of the insulation. (allaboutcircuits.com)
Determination of the actual thermal resistivity of the soil is very important since the thermal characteristics of the surrounding soil and the laying depth of the cable circuit can alter the circuit ampacity by more than 50%. (Kema)
In general most terminals are rated for 75 degrees C. Conductors with 90 degree C insulations can be used on these terminals provided they are not used at an ampacity higher than the 75 degree C. ampacity. However, the 90 degree insulation ampacity can be used for derating purposes.

Definition from own experience or research:
Ilgstošā termoizturības nominālā strāva (mērvienība - ampērs) ir noteikta ilgstoši pieļaujama strāva, kas spēj ilgstoši plūst caur vadītāju (piemēram, kabeli vai citu strāvu vadošu ierīci vai elementu), tajā un tā tuvumā (izolācijā u.c.) temperatūrai nepārsniedzot noteikto robežu.
Example sentences:
attiecīgo ķēžu nominālā termoizturības strāva Icw – 1 sekundes laikā izturamās maiņstrāvas komponentes efektīvā vērtība, t.i., gaidāmā īsslēguma strāva savienojošā spriegumā.....6 kA (Ekspluatācijas instrukcija)
Note from asker:
Many thanks Liz. I was leaning towards that, but unsure.
What's RTU? That might help.
Hi Phil. RTU = TUR (common term). I think Liz's suggestion is the probable answer.
So transurethral resection. In that case I don't see how Liz's answer fits the context. Could it be "sin éxito" something? Just guessing.
RTU = Resección Trans-Uterina..?
Well, after checking some protocols yes RTU=reseccion transuretral (this is a man 'cause it's indicated "prostate". But definitively not EM (electron microscopy). BCG instillations are administered as immunotherapy in the urinary tract, not in fixed & prepared tissue slices!!!
The SEM appears to be a separate procedure from the BCG instillation. Scanning Electron Microscopy currently seems to me to be the most likely candidate.
"Semanal" is an option, although it seems strange that it is in capitals in that case.
Hi Liz. I still think this could be correct, as they are completely separate procedures (separated by a full stop). "Semanal" was another option I considered, but why is it is capitalized in that case?
Electron Microscopy is done only in research, not on an every-day basis and for many patients. This report looks quite ordinary, do you have an idea of how costly electron microscopy is and the time it take to prepare the samples? Besides SEM is for detect changes at a very fine/small level. I don't think they want to describe subcellular changes when administering the BCG therapy! Nowadays we have several other techniques (less costly and time-consuming) to see cellular/tissue changes (hybridization, molecular tagging, gene/protein expression, etc.). Finally, SEM can be a lot of things and this is in Spanish. I don't se the point in writing 'SEM' when in Spanish is Microscopía electrónica (ME). Cheers
Maybe the clue is on the ENCORE trial, apparently the patient was participating on it, it says so a couple of times. But I can't find the abstract or more info on ENCORE.
Thanks for your suggestions Abe. From my research, I think the ENCORE trial may be more about the anesthesia. You may be right that it is intended to be an abbreviation of "semanal" and should be "Sem." I certainly take your point about the expense. I've found the name of the site from a similar report: Clinica Universitario Navarra.
It makes sense in the clinical context of BCG instillations.
Hi Liz. Adter thinking nmore about it, I think that "Semana" was probably the intended meaning, even though it was in caps.
