"Během roku Komerční banka v rámci programu Renaissance, zahájeného v první polovině roku 2003, ukončila reorganizaci činnosti svých back office. Vybrané podpůrné činnosti byly přesunuty na externí dodavatele, zpracování domácích plateb bylo centralizováno do dvou národních center a došlo k další optimalizaci bankovního provozu. V důsledku toho meziročně poklesl prosincový průměrný přepočtený počet zaměstnanců o 11 % na 7 309 pracovníků, což přispělo k výraznému snížení nákladů banky."

This terminology is used in a number of seemingly unrelated industries; in stock trading, for instance, the front office is an order placed by a user or broker in very general terms, the middle office handles the actual trading within those terms, and then they inform the back office of the actual details of the transaction.
