English term

an hour on, an hour off

English to Russian Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Fiction
- I've never heard about how he died. They just said an infection.
- That was the hell of it. All the fighting over and everything. But then they had us cleaning out that camp. An hour on, an hour off, it was so bad. The poor blighters were skin and bone, that's all they were. Skin and bone. You had to wear a mask. We had to burn most of it. Bodies. And the disease, you see. Well, a lot of the blokes got dysentery though they didn't die of it. But that's what happened with him. Which is stupid, after all the action he'd seen. Dysentery. Stupid.

agree Oleg Sollogub : Именно так - час работаешь, час отдыхаешь. Этим подчеркивается, какие трудные условия работы, как все плохо.
