Cette convention indique toujours une certitude de manche dans la couleur qui vient d'être déclarée par le partenaire, et un espoir de chelem. Le partenaire du splinter doit revoir la force de son jeu en la dévaluant s'il a des honneurs forts dans la couleur du splinter, et inversément en la réévaluant s'il a des petites cartes dans cette couleur.
