Italian term

darci scarico

Italian to English Bus/Financial Accounting Financial statements
Hi, I have this at the end of the report on the financial statements, addressed to the Shareholders' Meeting. I understand the literal meaning of 'to give us discharge for our work' but is there a nice English phrase that we would use?
Many thanks

Vi chiediamo di approvare il conto annuale per l’esercizio 2019/2020 e di darci scarico del nostro operato,

Thank you, Angie. Your explanation 'approvare il nostro operato' makes sense so I like 'ratify the work we have done' (thank you, Adrian).
Angie Garbarino Dec 15, 2020:
sure It just sounds bad to my hear :)
Christine Birch (asker) Dec 15, 2020:
Thanks for the explanation. This is a Swiss text so it is probably a legal requirement there too. If there was something wrong with the audit and they were not 'discharged from their duties' would they then have to do further audit tests? That would be the implication on reading this phrase.
Angie Garbarino Dec 15, 2020:
Horrible sentence it is like to say fornirci liberatoria/approvare il nostro operato

ratify the work we have done

As a non-accountant, I must have been mistranslating this phrase and equivalents in other lingos for decades.

I doubt we are being discharged, namely fired in the sense of dismissed or out of a cannon..

Descargo: entry 3 der soc / corp. law *ratification of the acts* of an officer or director, West SPA / AmE dictionary of law and business

Otherwise, an English audio-typist in our one-time London translation office seemed keener on giving the Board 'gratification'.
Example sentence:

Proposals to discharge directors of liability for their activities in the past financial year or to approve/ratify management acts routinely appear on general meetings’ agendas in many European markets.

neutral philgoddard : Your example sentence actually says "discharge" before it says "ratify".

Discharge. as you ought to know from signing off Anglo-Am. annual accounts and company reports, is the pidgin English version and the one that made me jump or 'discharged cannon-like' out of my UK translation-office seat decades ago.

discharge us (from our duties)

It means approve the audit.

The Committee shall review the performance of the Auditors and discharge the Auditors if and when the Committee determines that circumstances warrant.

The discharge of the Auditors is a legal requirement for Belgian companies. However shareholders who voted in favour of the discharge are precluded from bringing suit against the company.
