Sei que é alguma espécie de macaco, e o mais próximo que encontrei até agora foi macaco giratório. Seria isso?

Olá pessoal, obrigada a todos pelo empenho! Acabei descobrindo que eles querem um verbo em pivoting, então não é o nome do macaco especial, mas o processo. Vou usar pivotar macaco -> http://aulete.uol.com.br/pivotar

A propósito, Desconfio seriamente que o macaco da Fórmula 1 tem outro nome que não é macaco. Se você pesquisar macaco e Fórmula 1, não encontra nenhuma referência válida.
A ferramenta utiliazda para erguer o carro de F1 é uma alavanca que ergue o carro em décimos de segundo, sem que seja necessário "bombeá-la" ou torcer alavancas. O nome deve ser outro em português.

A Fórmula 1 utilizava o macaco automático, mas está proibido, então não pode ser este:

Sugestão, mas não encontrei referências válidas específicas para F1. A maioria dos macacos articulados são aqueles comuns que vem nos carros de passeio.

Sem dúvida, é um macaco! E o link do Nick descreve o resto. É a plataforma ("lifting pad") do macaco que é articulada para permitir desengate rápido na hora de baixar o carro:

"(...) the mechanic pulls a lever to release the front jack, the lifting pad drops away, pivoting on the axle and the car drops quickly to the ground."
