are you really paying /working hard to make AI competitors grow? Mar 22

major update is centered around using AI tool in Trados, but unfortunately, such AI being inherently language businesses' major competitor and it generally and eventually aims to eradicate freelancing business and SMEs and take all their profit. we really feel sorry that leading CAT tool providers like Phrase or XTM is automatically eating ALL data ***regardless of consent***(I confirmed they do even if end client refused to do so or while they are not aware of it),

and we need to pay some hundred dollars to desktop AI tools like Trados just in order to avoid our work being eaten by AI LLM.

the hilarious part (not related to RWS) is that Phrase or XTM does not even provide word count analyses data available and refuse to automate fee calculations paperwork while learning all our work and result of great effort without any permissions. they (LLM language providers ) leave less profitable part for you.

No, but soon. Mar 22

I should replace my desktop computer this year. It dates back to 2018 (and possibly even 2016, not sure). It actually is still working fine, but I'm starting to worry it will all of a sudden fail and that wouldn't be agreeable.

I will also upgrade to Trados 2024 (from 2019) then. Not looking forward to it, because I always read reports about people experiencing serious trouble with every upgrade, although I've never been one of them until now (every upgrade since the year 2005 went

2021 is going to be my last version of Trados Studio. When they announced that Trados Studio 2024 would come with an OpenAI plug-in installed by default, that was a major deal-breaker for me. Of course, they proceeded to affirm that one can uninstall that plug-in, but since neither RWS nor OpenAI can be remotely trusted, I would rather not risk the integrity and privacy of my clients' data.

No, and will only upgrade if my clients require me to Mar 22

I have the 2022 version and all my current clients are ok with this. I will only upgrade if "urgent", even more so now that, as Alex wrote above, the AI plug-in is installed by default.

For those end-clients who do not require Trados, I use Transit NXT, without any AI functions. It might be a bit behind on certain aspects, but it is still my favourite CAT tool.

It's entirely up to the users whether they want to use the OpenAI plugin in Trados Studio 2024, right?
If yes, we can choose not to use it and continue working with our traditional translation methods if we prefer.
I use Trados 2022 and 2021 versions. I'll upgrade to the newer one in case I start to have serious issues using both these versions.

No, it is likely that my current version (2022) will be my last. Trados hasn't really improved over the past 10 years. I might consider upgrading it if they can make it run faster. Ditto MemoQ... MemoQ has also seen some dramatic slow downs in the past 5 years. It's odd: computers get faster but CAT tools get slower.

That's what RWS affirms upon asking. Now, maybe I have major trust issues. Maybe I'm paranoid. BUT: I do not trust RWS any further than I can throw a house, and I trust OpenAI even less. So, even if we don't subscribe to any paid OpenAI plan, don't use the plug-in and even uninstall it, I am not willing to bet a single cent on them not mooching off my translations in the background. Thieves will be thieves. They are currently stealing from Studio Ghibli with no sign of shame. If everyone is cool with them blatantly ripping off Ghibli, who would care about them stealing from a small translator?

And I am quite happy with it, actually. Some processes seem faster. Could be just a placebo effect, mind trying to justify the cost.
