最近没啥活儿干，想着在Proz上面找找机会。联系了几个招翻译的公司，发了简历后收到了其中一个的回复，说通过了他们的筛选，愿意合作，主要做英翻中，但是我的报价高了，他们能出得起的价格是MTPE USD0.009/word，HT USD0.0117/word——看到这个价格我不禁倒吸一口冷气，MTPE我做得不多情况不清楚，可是人工翻译才1美分多点，算了一下差不多只有RMB50/千中文，居然连我在国内接稿价格的一半都不到。我有点好奇这个价格会有什么样的翻译会去做呢？或者即使做，又能有多好的质量呢？难道国际翻译市场的行情竟然如此差了吗？

在 Proz.com 上得到的价格，并不代表国际翻译市场的行情。实际上，到 Proz.com 上来找英译中或中译英译员的翻译社主要就是冲着中国大陆的廉价译员来的。所以，他们愿出的价格与国内价格相差无几甚至还低于国内价格，就丝毫也不令人奇怪。但是，即使价格低到如此匪夷所思的地步，仍然会有饥不择食的人去做！这就是译者“自相残杀”、恶性竞争的结果！当然这不能怪自由译者，只能怪国内的就业机会太少，而许多高校却还在盲目扩招！

中国大陆的互联网于上世纪90年代后期才起步。那时，美国的互联网也不是十分普及。我记得那时想上 AOL (America Online)，得通过电话线拨号，拨上很久还不一定能拨通。那时，美国的翻译社找翻译通常是按照在 ATA 注册的译员名单，或他们自己积累的译员名单，先打电话给译员，谈妥一切后再用传真机把需要翻译的文件传真给译员。哪像现在，翻译社利用群发电子邮件的功能，只要发一个 Email 就能收到一呼百应的效果。在上世纪90年代，根据美国有关政府部门的统计，英译中或中译英的价格几乎是所有语言对中最高的，平均价格在 $0.30/word (不是 $0.03/word）以上。其原因很简单，英译中比英译俄、俄译德之类的翻译要难得多（即使现在用机器翻译+MTPE 也是如此）；中译英则更难。如今，英译日、日译英的价格仍可维持在较高水平（$0.20/word or character 上下），但英译中或中译英的价格却不可同日而语！

除了Proz，也可以去Gengo上面找找呀，报酬还可以，不过需要通过他们的测试。国内现在也比较卷，而且国内市场也有点乱。之前朋友还提议去LinkedIn上找找，也有机会。

90年代末，0.3美元一个字，相当于今天的0.6美元啊。1000字600美元。

需要说明一下，我上面所说的美国有关政府部门统计的“平均价格在 $0.30/word (不是 $0.03/word）以上”，并非完全是指美国中文自由译者（freelance translators）的平均价格，而是指美国中文 Language Service Providers (LSP)的平均价格。不过，其中某些 LSP 就是 freelance translators。据我所知，我们这里的一些朋友，也开了翻译社，他们的翻译社往往就只有他们自己一个人。他们是“翻译民工”，同时也是翻译社老板。

目前中文翻译（包括英译中和中译外）的平均价格虽然比上世纪90年代低许多，但在所有语种里，仍然居于较高位置。因此，中国大陆的自由译者完全没必要拼命压低自己的价格。他们错误地以为，目前国际翻译市场的行情就是每个单词一美分、两美分。如果你们能翻墙的话，请看看这两篇文章：

中文翻译的价格 minimum $0.08/word，average $0.23/word，maximum 0.45/word；
日文翻译的价格 minimum $0.14/word，average $0.25/word，maximum 0.61/word。

看了这两篇文章之后，国内的朋友们是不是有点被黄世仁骗了的感觉？所以说，黄金时代并未过去，现在的天下并非是黄世仁、南霸天的一统天下！
