Hello,
In the past, I have found the average exchange rate for a 12-month period by going to hmrc.gov.uk, and typing "exchange rate" in the search box.
This no longer works. Using Google, the nearest thing I have been able to find is the average exchange rate for each month. Does HMRC still publish average exchange rates over 12-month periods?
Regards,
Carlos.

HMRC forum Dec 15, 2023

I found this discussion on the HMRC customer forum: https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/pt/7108e31a-25f3-ed11-913b-00155d9c6b71

An HMRC Admin replied the following a couple of weeks ago:

HMRC Admin wrote on 30th November 2023:

Under the terms of Self Assessment, we do not provide an official exchange rate and the onus is on the individual to use a just and reasonable exchange rate for each acquisition and disposal.

For your convenience, there are exchange rates at:

The National Archives - Exchange rates from HMRC in CSV and XML format

For older rates, please see:

National Archives - Foreign exchange rates and spot rates: 1 January 1989 to 31 March 2009

You are free to use any of the supplied rates or one of your own choosing.

It doesn’t have to be scientific Dec 15, 2023

I mostly get paid in GBP but when I don’t I just declare the amount that goes into my bank account.
