Hello to all. If you’re using Wordfast Pro 5, chances are it got updated to Wordfast Pro 5. The good news is that beside looking different, it comes with a few fixes. You need to have a license (at least the 30 day free trial license). The remote TM video explains how to get a free 30 day license. You need to edit the URL with the relevant language codes. The remote TM video explains how to do it. For the remote TM URL, YouTube doesn’t allow for the “>” (angle bracket) character to be in the video description. Add it manually where it is needed. Fi2'n'Co, could you please first explain (1) why a free remote TM any good, its origin and benefits; and (2) how a free remote IATE glossary any better than others or from other sources, and which language pairs, so that you promote these features as something unique while it's not even highlighted at the official WF sites? Getting an opinion is always good. I’ll address some of the points you raised and give information that may prove useful to many. _Indeed this functionality has been published for a long time on the Wordfast Wiki (initially for WFP 3) here: https://www.wordfast.net/wiki/VLTM_in_Wordfast_Pro _VLTM and IATE are both natively available in a few clicks in Wordfast Anywhere. _Getting the information out there was relevant since there were known issues with these in WFP 4. And now it’s fixed in WFP 5, nice! _VLTM: that project has been around for a while and the TMs available in it are of rather good quality. To a new freelancer, getting a 100% match with this (real work made by translators) will be relevant against just getting the suggestion from a Machine Translation (I think many would agree with this). The number of TUs available varies from one language pair to the other though. _IATE: That’s an EU terminology project. You’d be surprised what’s in there and the huge number of entries available. To a new freelancer that’s a great bonus and to a seasoned translator it is a really a time-saving feature since glossaries are placeables which means typing less and less typos. Off-course, not all entries are extremely correct or relevant to what you are translating, but with each entry comes a level of confidence that can be consulted. I think this presents many benefits compared to the MT-only approach especially for newbies. _Accessing remote Pro TMs is possible too, which is great for collaborating. Connecting to remote personal TMs is done in a comparable method. There’s even a possibility to connect a TM between WFP 3 and Wordfast Anywhere which I shown in another video (not yet available in WFP 5 though). I know seasoned professional freelancers that use this daily, because it fits their workflow. By the way, I don’t work for Wordfast. I’m not advertising, just sharing 😉. Hope this will be useful to many. My bests. | | | IATE online vs. IATE as WF glossary | May 14, 2017 |

To do concordance search in the local TM, created from downloaded DGT-TM ( https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/language-technologies/dgt-translation-memory ) is better way. A last release is DGT-TM-release 2017. There are about 400.000 TUs in each language (an exeption pairs with GA-IE language). My another way is very simple: I extract all words from project, I translated them by Google Translate and I create "raw" glossary for editing on-the-fly. Milan Condak Czech Wordfast Trainer Hello Milan Indeed, we are now quite far from what CAT-tools used to be. Wordfast even shifted from txml to txlf. Wordfast Anywhere has been vastly modernised and there’s even a voice typing plugin for Google Chrome users. Power users definitely know what can be achieved with these tools. Thank you for the very interesting DGT-TM link. Here’s a link with the list of available languages for those interested in DGT-TM: http://islrn.org/resources/710-653-952-884-4/ My bests 😊 | |

DZiW wrote: However, it was rather slow and no of big help in my test project, alas. The servers for these applications are a lot faster now. The speed felt will depend on a number of factors: your upload/download internet speed, how powerful your computer is etc. As a comparison, in Wordfast Anywhere connection with VLTM is made server to server and feels next to instantaneous. The same happens with IATE. On desktops, the speed felt will thus depend greatly on the user’s PC performance.
