找找家里有没有那样的板......

Juliazou wrote:

revolution的含义之一是:a time when people change a ruler or political system by using force or violence. 这个词义,译为革命并无不妥。

BTW,“身体是革命的本钱”的确是句口头禅,完全没有政治含义,一般人都把“革命”直接理解为“事业、工作、以及一切需要耗费精力的事”。现在几乎没人还把政治意义上的“革命”当回事,甚至可以说,“In Money We Trust”才是当前的主流思想。

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/goodbye

Word History: No doubt more than one reader has wondered exactly how goodbye is derived from the phrase "God be with you." To understand this, it is helpful to see earlier forms of the expression, such as God be wy you, god b'w'y, godbwye, god buy' ye, and good-b'wy. The first word of the expression is now good and not God, for good replaced God by analogy with such expressions as good day, perhaps after people no longer had a clear idea of the original sense of the expression. A letter of 1573 written by Gabriel Harvey contains the first recorded use of goodbye: "To requite your gallonde [gallon] of godbwyes, I regive you a pottle of howdyes," recalling another contraction that is still used.

Not too many people think of the connection with God when they say goodbye nowadays. Perhaps in a similar manner, the 革命 in the phrase 身体是革命的本钱 has gradually lost its original sense of a radical cause.

Another example this reminds me of is when people refer to real bad people as "gentlemen". You can hear it on TV quite often when people talk to or talk about criminals. I guess they use it to be polite or for lack of a better word. That usually gives me a cringe.

nerve cells, a process that for decades had been thought impossible, simply
by putting subjects on a three-month aerobic-workout regimen. Other
scientists have found that vigorous exercise can cause older nerve cells to
form dense, interconnected webs that make the brain run faster and more
efficiently. And there are clues that physical activity can stave off the
beginnings of Alzheimer's disease, ADHD and other cognitive disorders.
General Editor Mary Carmichael, with Harvard Medical School, examine the
latest research and findings about how an active body is crucial for
building a strong, active mind in the March 26 cover "Exercise and the
Brain" (on newsstands Monday, March 19).
