Bio

Born in Majorca, Spain, I grew up as a bilingual Spanish/Catalan speaker, and developed a very early interest in English. I became proficient in it by my early twenties through music lyrics, literature and TV and got my CPE in English in order to start teaching English (instead of becoming a Telecommunications engineer, which was my major in University).

After 7 years of teaching at a language school, I got the opportunity to work as a full time freelance English>Spanish translator of TV content, mostly MTV and Discovery channel, and did that for two years, until my pursuit of the mastery of the Chinese language -which I had been self-studying for some time- took me to China. In the ten years I spent there, I got my HSK 6 certificate, a Master's Degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (taught in Chinese), taught English and Spanish in University and got some freelance Chinese-Spanish general translation experience through Translated, and also in Castilian Spanish voiceovers with the Company Cosmic Global Limited.

Music is another language I am passionate about. I am always engaged in one music project or other, putting into use different skills, as singing, songwriting, recording, playing piano or guitar or gigging and, as is a must these days, showcasing all that in my social media, which has lead to acquiring a considerable amount of video and audio editing skills. I'm also quite fit, very much into sports and health food.

For translations, I like working with Matecat. After the first phrase by phrase translation, I like revising my work as a complete text, as it will be delivered. I do subsequent revisions until I have proofread the whole translation and I'm sure it's error-free and well aligned with the guidelines I'm asked to follow, making sure I take a break between revisions.

As for voiceovers, I work with Logic Pro X and an AKG Perception 820 Tube mic in my home studio. I record the whole script first and start editing right away, in order to keep the same room conditions for any necessary re-recordings. After the first edit is finished, I listen to the whole recording as one piece of audio and make sure everything is on point before delivery.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in China as an expat, not only for the thrill of all the challenges I met there (linguistic and non-linguistic), but also for the fun of living in a multi-cultural environment (both the University and the expat community) that kept me on my toes and learning new things every day.
