Translation - English Kochi Prefecture Makino Botanical Gardens
These botanical gardens commemorate the world-renowned botanist Makino Tomitaro, who was born of the soil of this land. Centered on specimens from Kochi Prefecture, the gardens house approximately 1500 different types of plant. Here one can enjoy the beauty of flowers through all four seasons.
Facilities consist of the Makino Tomitaro Memorial Center, the Main Hall, and the Exhibition Hall. The Main Hall contains an experiential learning room, the Makino Library and a film room. The Exhibition Hall features a section showcasing Dr. Makino's biography, a gallery of botanical illustrations and a special exhibition room. Both buildings make abundant use of wood, giving a certain warmth to the Exhibition Hall.

Translation - English Sandwiched between the Shikoku Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Kochi City developed around Urado Bay, right at the center of Kochi Prefecture. It has been the political, economic and cultural capital of the prefecture ever since the Chosokabe Motochika - the unifier of Shikoku - chose the city as his seat of power approximately four hundred years ago. At the end of the Edo Period, the city turned out royalist activists such as Sakamoto Ryoma and Takechi Zuizan who laid the foundation for the Meiji Restoration. Kochi remained significant following the Restoration, and is known as the cradle of liberty and people’s rights in Japan. Among other notable political achievements, Kochi was the first city in Japan to grant voting rights to women.
Born in the Netherlands and raised in Los Angeles to a Japanese mother and Swedish father, I grew up speaking English, Japanese, Swedish and Dutch. With an additional six years living and working in Germany, I have added German to my arsenal.
I have leveraged my language abilities in my many years of work as a translator. However, not only am I a linguist, I also have over 10 years of experience working in business, government and education/academia, in fields as diverse as video games, cyber security, space technology, consumer technology, business consulting, diplomacy, and theology. This real-world working experience has given me a strong command not only of my languages, but also how they're used in specific contexts. I hope to use this expertise on your next project!
