Hello fellow linguists,
Might someone be able to shed some light on the abbreviated 'E' and 'M' in the above phrase?
I thought it could mean 'examen médico' of blood culture? This phrase is found under the 'procedimientos' section of the patient's medical report.
Am I along the right lines?
Thank you in advance,
Nathalie

microbiological examination of blood cultures
I believe the "M" here stands for "microbiológico" (as in "estudio microbiológico").

microscopic examination of blood, culture
It's an ICD (International Classification of Diseases) code:

Thanks, Neil :) (But note that microscopic and microbiological are NOT synonyms. There is not evidence at all that this refers to a microbiological examination, and since they've used the ICD term verbatim, it clearly doesn't.)

: "blood culture" without the comma in this case
I agree with the ICD classification, but in this particular translation I believe it is just "blood culture"

Thanks, David, but the comma is required, because "cultivo" is a sub-category of "E. M. de sangre" (see ICD list). // Well, all we know is that it is listed under "Procedimientos".
