NDAR federation creates largest source of autism research data to date
NIH-funded database sets standard for collaboration and data sharing
A data partnership between the National Database for Autism Research (NDAR), and the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange (AGRE) positions NDAR as possibly the largest repository to date of genetic, phenotypic, clinical, and medical imaging data related to research on autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
"The collaboration between AGRE and NDAR exemplifies the efforts of government and stakeholders to work together for a common cause," said Thomas R. Insel, M.D., director of the National Institute of Mental Health, part of NIH. "NDAR continues to be a leader in the effort to standardize and share ASD data with the research community, and serves as a model to all research communities."
NDAR is supported by the National Institutes of Health; AGRE is an Autism Speaks program.
NDAR's mission is to facilitate data sharing and scientific collaboration on a broad scale, providing a shared common platform for autism researchers to accelerate scientific discovery. Built around the concept of federated repositories, NDAR integrates and standardizes data, tools, and computational techniques across multiple public and private autism databases. Through NDAR, researchers can access results from these different sources at the same time, using the rich data set to conduct independent analyses, supplement their own research data, or evaluate the data supporting published journal articles, among many other uses.
Databases previously federated with NDAR include Autism Speaks' Autism Tissue Program, the Kennedy Krieger Institute's Interactive Autism Network (IAN), and the NIH Pediatric MRI Data Repository. AGRE currently houses a clinical dataset with detailed medical, developmental, morphological, demographic, and behavioral information from people with ASD and their families.
Approved NDAR users will have access to data from the 25,000 research participants represented in NDAR, as well as 2,500 AGRE families and more than 7,500 participants who reported their own information to IAN.
NDAR is supported by NIMH, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the NIH Center for Information Technology.

ONCE upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were - Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.
They lived with their Mother in a sand-bank, underneath the root of a very big fir-tree.
"NOW, my dears," said old Mrs. Rabbit one morning, "you may go into the fields or down the lane, but don't go into Mr. McGregor's garden. Your Father had an accident there; he was put in a pie by Mrs. McGregor."
"NOW run along, and don't get into mischief. I am going out." Then old Mrs. Rabbit took a basket and her umbrella, and went through the wood to the baker's. She bought a loaf of brown bread and five currant buns.
FLOPSY, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, who were good little bunnies, went down the lane to gather blackberries;
BUT Peter, who was very naughty, ran straight away to Mr. McGregor's garden, and squeezed under the gate!
FIRST he ate some lettuces and some French beans; and then he ate some radishes;
AND then, feeling rather sick, he went to look for some parsley.
BUT round the end of a cucumber frame, whom should he meet but Mr. McGregor!
Mr. McGregor was on his hands and knees planting out young cabbages, but he jumped up and ran after Peter, waving a rake and calling out, "Stop thief!"
PETER was most dreadfully frightened; he rushed all over the garden, for he had forgotten the way back to the gate.
He lost one of his shoes among the cabbages, and the other shoe amongst the potatoes.
AFTER losing them, he ran on four legs and went faster, so that I think he might have got away altogether if he had not unfortunately run into a gooseberry net, and got caught by the large buttons on his jacket. It was a blue jacket with brass buttons, quite new.
PETER gave himself up for lost, and shed big tears; but his sobs were overheard by some friendly sparrows, who flew to him in a great excitement, and implored him to exert himself.
MR. McGREGOR came up with a sieve, which he intended to pop upon the top of Peter; but Peter wriggled out just in time, leaving his jacket behind him.
AND rushed into the tool-shed, and jumped into a can. It would have been a beautiful thing to hide in, if it had not had so much water in it.
Mr. McGregor was quite sure that Peter was somewhere in the tool-shed, perhaps hidden underneath a flower-pot. He began to turn them over carefully, looking under each.
Presently Peter sneezed -"Kertyschoo!"
Mr. McGregor was after him in no time.
AND tried to put his foot upon Peter, who jumped out of a window, upsetting three plants.
The window was too small for Mr. McGregor, and he was tired of running after Peter. He went back to his work.
PETER sat down to rest; he was out of breath and trembling with fright, and he had not the least idea which way to go. Also he was very damp with sitting in that can.
After a time he began to wander about, going lippity - lippity - not very fast, and looking all round.
He found a door in a wall; but it was locked, and there was no room for a fat little rabbit to squeeze underneath.
An old mouth was running in and out over the stone door-step, carrying peas and beans to her family in the wood. Peter asked her the way to the gate, but she had such a large pea in her mouth that she could not answer.
She only shook her head at him. Peter began to cry.
THEN he tried to find his way straight across the garden, but he became more and more puzzled. Presently, he came to a pond where Mr. McGregor filled his water-cans. A white cat was staring at some gold-fish; she sat very, very still, but now and then the tip of her tail twitched as if it were alive. Peter thought it best to go away without speaking to her; he had heard about cats from his cousin, little Benjamin Bunny.
HE went back towards the tool-shed, but suddenly, quite close to him, he heard the noise of a hoe- scr-r-ritch, scratch, scratch, scritch. Peter scuttered underneath the bushes. But presently, as nothing happened, he came out, and climbed upon a wheelbarrow and peeped over. The first thing he saw was Mr. McGregor hoeing onions. His back was turned toward Peter, and beyond him was the gate!
Peter got down very quietly off the wheelbarrow, and started running as fast as he could go, along a straight walk behind some black-currant bushes.
Mr. McGREGOR caught sight of him at the corner, but Peter did not care. He slipped underneath the gate, and was safe at last in the wood outside the garden.
MR. McGREGOR hung up the little jacket and the shoes for a scarecrow to frighten the blackbirds.
PETER never stopped running or looked behind him till he got home to the big fir-tree.
He was so tired that he flopped down upon the nice soft sand on the floor of the rabbit-hold and shut his eyes. His mother was busy cooking; she wondered what he had done with his clothes. It was the second little jacket and pair of shoes that Peter had lost in a fortnight!
I AM sorry to say that Peter was not very well during the evening.
His mother put him to bed, and made some camomile tea; and she gave a dose of it to Peter! "One table-spoonful to be taken at bed-time."
BUT Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail had bread and milk and blackberries for supper.

신발을 잃어버린 피터는 네 발로 껑충껑충 뛰면서 더 빨리 달아났어요. 내 생각에 만약 피터가 운나쁘게 재킷에 달린 큰 단추만 구즈베리 그물에 걸리지 않았어도, 완전히 도망칠 수 있었을거에요. 놋쇠로 만든 단추가 달린, 산 지 얼마 되지 않은 파란 재킷이었어요. (15쪽)
피터는 눈물을 뚝뚝 흘리며, 이제는 죽었구나 하고 생각했어요. 그런데 피터가 우는 소리를 들은 친절한 참새들이 잔뜩 흥분해서 날아와서는 힘내서 어서 일어나라고 피터에게 호소했어요. (16쪽)
맥그리거씨가 피터 위에 씌우려고 체를 들고 다가왔어요, 그러나 피터는 아슬아슬하게 체를 피해서 빠져나왔어요. 그런데 그만 파란 재킷은 그자리에 두고 말이에요. (17쪽)
그리고는 연장을 두는 헛간으로 도망가서는 물뿌리개 속으로 뛰어들었어요. 정말 숨기에 딱 좋은 곳이었어요, 만약 그 안에 물이 가득 들어있지 않았다면요.
맥그리거씨는 피터가 헛간 어딘가에, 아마도 화분 아래 어딘가에 숨어있을거라고 확신했어요. 화분을 조심스럽게 하나씩 뒤집어 보았어요. 밑에 뭐가 있나 확인하면서 말이에요. 바로 그때 피터가 "에취" 하고 재채기를 했어요. 맥그리거씨는 바로 피터를 쫒아왔어요. (18쪽)
그리고는 발로 피터를 밟으려고 했는데, 피터는 화분 세개를 뒤집고는 창문 밖으로 달아났어요. 맥그리거씨가 빠져나오기에는 창문이 너무 작았고 벌써 피터를 쫒아오느라 지쳐있었어요. 맥그리거씨는 다시 하던 일을 계속하려고 제자리로 돌아갔어요. (20쪽)
피터는 쉬려고 앉았어요; 너무 숨이차고 무서움에 떠느라 어느 길로 가야할지 도무지 생각이 나지 않았어요. 게다가 물뿌리개 안에 앉아 있어서 몸이 온통 젖어 있었어요. 잠시후에 피터는 여기저기 돌아다니기 시작했어요. 살금, 살금, 천천히,주위를 돌아보면서 말이에요. (21쪽)
피터는 담장에 있는 문을 찾았어요; 그런데 그 문은 잠겨있었고 그 밑에는 뚱뚱한 토끼가 비집고 들어갈 만한 공간도 없었어요.
늙은 쥐가 돌로 된 계단 위로 문 밖을 왔다갔다 했어요, 숲에 사는 가족에게 완두콩이랑 콩을 실어나르면서 말이에요. 피터는 쥐에게 문으로 가는 길을 물어 보았는데 입에 엄청 큰 완두콩을 물고 있던 쥐는 대답을 할 수 없었어요. 쥐는 피터를 보면서 그냥 머리만 내저었어요. 피터는 울기 시작했어요. (22쪽)
그리고나서 피터는 밭을 곧장 가로질러 가면서 길을 찾아보려고 했으나 점점 더 헷갈리기만 했어요. 바로 그때, 피터는 맥그리거씨가 물뿌리개에 물을 길어넣는 연못에 다달았어요. 흰 고양이가 금붕어 몇 마리를 쳐다보고 있었어요; 그 고양이는 꼼짝도 않고 앉아 있었는데, 이따금씩 꼬리 끝만 살아있다는 듯이 씰룩 씰룩거렸어요. 피터는 고양이에게 말을 걸지 않고 가는게 좋겠다고 생각했어요; 사촌 토끼인 벤자민에게서 고양이에 관한 얘기를 들은 적이 있기 때문이에요. (23쪽)
피터는 헛간이 있는 쪽으로 돌아갔어요, 그런데 갑자기, 아주 가까이서, 쒹쒹하는 호미소리가 들렸어요. 피터는 덤불아래로 내달렸어요. 그리고 나서는 바로 마치 아무일도 없었다는 듯이 다시 나와서는 손수레 위로 올라가서 고개를 삐죽이 내밀고 밖을 보았어요. 처음 본 것이 맥그리거씨가 호미로 양파를 캐고 있는 모습이었어요. 맥그리거씨는 피터를 등지고 있었는데 그 너머로 문이 보였어요.
피터는 조용히 손수레에서 내려와서는 검은 건포도 덤불 뒤로 난 길을
