Discussion

Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. Apr 11, 2015:
Perhaps like this:
The music for a string section is not necessarily written in five parts; parts can be assigned to more than one instrument, and sometimes certain instruments are omitted.

Marcin Walecki (asker) Apr 11, 2015:
According to the wikipedia page about "Part", both answers are correct :) <br>
"In the context of polyphonic composition the term voice may be used instead of part to denote a single melodic line or textural layer."<br> I like both options + you have provided extensive explanations to support your answer, but there's one problem with the term "part"... <br> If I use it, how should I translate the term "partia"? E.g. "partia organowa" or even better "Partia smyczków podzielona na 3 głosy"?
Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. Apr 10, 2015:
1) If there is a chord and 2 of them are played by flutes and 1 is payed by clarinets, then one speaks of playing lines, parts, voices: top line, middle line and bottom line.
2) And what happens if the number of notes in a chord changes, do we change instrumentation for the orchestral piece being played? Of course not.
3) This question regards the number of instruments that play the piece, whether at a given moment a player is blowing the horn or not, or whether single notes or chords are involved.
4) The sentence clearly speaks of "instrumentation," not playing chords.
5) In an orchestral (or a choral piece), the score used by the conductor is divided into a number of parallel staffs, each one for a specific instrument, each called a part.
7) Each player is given own sheet of music for his/her part

"Analogously, a part also refers to the separate printed or manuscript copies of the music for each individual instrument in an ensemble or orchestra, as distinct from the score, which holds the music for all the instruments."

Orchestral instrumentation for baritona and tenor saxhorn parts.

nstrumentation for baritone and tenor parts:

The Parts

1st Baritone

The first baritone part has often been described as the most technically demanding of all the parts of the brass band. Yet in many senses the instrument is the Cinderella of the brass band, nearly always bowing to the euphonium or 1st trombone as a soloist.

2nd Baritone

The 2nd baritone is to the 1st baritone, the same as the 2nd horn is to the solo horn part. It is mostly a supportive, accompaniment part. The most significant difference between it and the 2nd horn part is that the 2nd baritone will help in "bass solos" in more traditional marches; or with the melody line, when a full sound is needed in unison with the 1st baritone and euphonium. Compare this with the 2nd horn, which many arrangers unfortunately rarely use for anything other than an accompanying rôle.

Bass Trombone

The bass trombone part has two unique qualities among the brass band parts. Firstly, it is written in concert pitch: that is the notes sound the same as they are written; and secondly, it is written in bass clef.

In all but special occasions, the Eb part will not split. Occasionally, a solo, or one only, section will appear. These sections will be countermanded by an à2 indication.

Muscial ensembles:

Four parts
Main article: Quartet
Strings[
A string quartet usually consists of two violins, a viola and a cello. An upper string quartet features two violins and two violas. A lower string quartet features one viola, two cellos and a double bass.
Wind
A woodwind quartet usually features a flute, an oboe, a clarinet and a bassoon. A brass quartet features two trumpets, a trombone and a tuba. A wind quartet features a horn, a flute, an oboe and a bassoon. A lower wind quartet features a tuba, a bassoon, a bass clarinet and a trombone. A saxophone quartet consists of a soprano saxophone, an alto saxophone, a tenor saxophone, and a baritone saxophone.
Five part
Main article: Quintet
The string quintet is a common type of group. It is similar to the string quartet, but with an additional viola, cello, or more rarely, the addition of a double bass. Terms such as "piano quintet" or "clarinet quintet" frequently refer to a string quartet plus a fifth instrument. Mozart's Clarinet Quintet is similarly a piece written for an ensemble consisting of two violins, a viola, a cello and a clarinet, the last being the exceptional addition to a "normal" string quartet.
Some other quintets in classical music are the woodwind quintet, usually consisting of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn; the brass quintet, consisting of two trumpets, one french horn, a trombone and a tuba; and the reed quintet, consisting of an oboe, a soprano clarinet, a saxophone, a bass clarinet, and a bassoon.

Orchestra
Instrumentation for the wind band is not standardized; composers will frequently add or omit parts. Instruments and parts in parentheses are less common but still often used; due to the fact that some bands are missing these instruments, important lines for these instruments are often cued into other parts.

Baritone horn/Euphonium 1 (, 2)[note 9][note 10]
The baritone/euphonium part is usually provided in both bass clef (concert pitch) and treble clef (in B♭, sounding a major 9th below written).

Note from asker:
I'm not sure about this option. I think that "Part" is simply a part of melody assigned to an instrument or a group of instruments. As far as I understand, "głos" is about something else. Let's say we have a chord comprised of 3 notes. 2 of them are played by flutes and 1 is payed by clarinets - in other words, flutes play 2 "głosy" and clarinets play 1 "głos". My first idea was "voice", but maybe ther's more accurate or proffesional term for this.

Thank you Paunitka for your support and a smile.

Thank you, Jacek. I was also torn about this question because "voice" is actually used do describe a line in a musical score played by an instrument. Here, however, instrumentation is involved, so it is a different nuance. Besides, Ms. Paunitka agrees.
