Latin term

Prot.

Latin to English Other Religion abbreviation
The context: 'Prot. N. 36911/05 CA Sancti Ludovici Iurium'.

I grasp all but the 'Prot.' I suspect that it may be an abbreviation meaning something like 'regarding, concerning' this particular canon, but am at a loss as to what the exact preposition (or verbal participle?) it abbreviates.

Protocol

In full, "Protocollo" - seems to be used in modern Italian, and I suspect the 05 at the end may refer to a year/date (obviously N = no.)

"Lettera Prot. N. 500/90"
http://www.unavoce-ve.it/pced500-1990.htm (written in 1990)

I've tried looking for links with the expanded version but when I click on them it always seems to vanish, and I need to go bed now! But you might have more luck searching than I've had.
