This is from a review, in French, of the new film "Oz: The Great and Powerful" The full sentence reads:

"Il fallait en avoir du courage et du talent pour adapter cette apologie de la bonté. Un coup de chapeau... claque donc à Disney et au réalisateur Sam Raimi qui, par la magie de la 3D et l'implication sans faille des acteurs ont su transformer cet Oz en Or!"

I'm not sure exactly what "apologie de la bonté" means and how to translate it. Any help much appreciated!

I'd suggest this type of register for a movie review, rather than a more sophisticated term (unless it's for a trade magazine or similar, perhaps)

Not sure what Dorothy would say, but it's the best I can come up with. "Apologie" just means "defence" or "praise" of...

ode to goodness/niceness

I don't disagree with either of the previous answers, but here's an alternative. I actually think 'niceness' might work well, because it has an ever so slightly ironic ring to it.

The closest translation is apologia: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/apologia
though that may be too erudite.

Depending on the register of your text, maybe this will work.

If you wanted to be very formal, you could, of course, use "apologia," which is the direct translation of apologie, in the sense of "in defense of."
