Ce serait écrit "anhydrides thereof" (ses anhydrides). La phrase me semble extraite de revendications. Donc, règle fondamentale, tu "colles" à ce qu'a écrit l'auteur. Même en cas d'erreur manifeste, tu ne corriges pas d'emblée. Tu traduis selon le texte et tu signales l'erreur.
Note from asker:
Ah oui ! Je pensais juste qu'il pouvait y en avoir plusieurs.

disagree Daryo : that would mean that there is one and only one possible "anhydride thereof" and/or only one in the resulting molecule ; even without knowing any chemistry, that is NOT what the grammatical analysis of ST says // CL5 about that, BTW

English term (edited): and at least one [dibasic acid or] anhydride thereof

et d'au moins un [acide dibasique ou] anhydride de celui-ci / celle-ci

there is NO ERROR, "anhydride" SHOULD BE in singular

Parsing: you have to take into account also the few preceding words:

"at least one dibasic acid or anhydride thereof"

so it makes perfect sense to use singular [=> at least one] although that certainly does not exclude that it could be more than one possible "anhydride thereof", or more than one in the resulting molecule.
Peer comment(s):

agree PLR TRADUZIO (X) : Tout à fait d'accord, il existe plusieurs anhydrides possibles dans ce contexte

Merci!
disagree Veronique Parente : Possible but in this case it is a patent translation, in particular claims, and strict rules to follow, whether we like it or not.

nonsense - is there some special grammar [and special chemistry] that applies only to patents? + it's not forbidden to read at least few preceding words - unless special "patent grammar" forbids that?
