I use an orange pen marker to underline my texts and different colour pens for writing different types of things (light green for my ledger, for instance).

Not a pen, and not a special one. I keep a battery of pencils, which have to be SHARP, so I drop one and use the next when I am busy, but I sharpen them all regularly. I have a big sharpener with a box to catch shavings, and give a pencil a twist before I start if necessary. We have pencils all over the house for crosswords, shopping lists, answering the phone, whatever...

I have a couple of ultra-fine red roller-ball pens for reviewing/proofreading. One is getting dry after years of faithful service, and will have to be replaced, especially as the other went AWOL this week, but it has turned up again. They are the expensive kind, but worth the investment!

I cannot use a normal ball pen, because I write with my left hand at a very oblique angle, and many of them simply scratch the paper - the tip does not always make contact. I can tip them up for short notes, but they cramp my style for serious work!

Yellow! Jun 9, 2018

Absolutely! I'm used to underlining with phosphorescent yellow highlight. When I have to underline something very important, however, I use the pink one as well.
Glowing colours help me to remind things easier
Anyway if I had to choose, I'd pick the yellow one.

I had really forgotten Jun 9, 2018

I had really forgotten this poll proposal!
That may sound silly but ...
I have some preferential pens and colours and they help me to develop and underline my notes, passions and printed jobs

I have a nice selection of fluorescent coloured markers.
Which one I use depends entirely on how I am feeling and my biorhythm.

I wish I was nerdier so that I could wear white socks, have my trouser hems halfway up my shins and have all these pens tucked into my top pocket together with a slide rule.

Depends on... Jun 9, 2018

... what for.
I rarely use pens nowadays anyway, but I always keep a yellow highlighting marker and a red pen handy just in case. And a normal black pen for signing or noting something down.

A good mechanical pencil my daughter bought me after I complained once too often about the cheap one I had, a couple of red roller-ball pens, a whole box of colored pencils, some sharp, some not.

All at the ready since sometimes I just have to print out the source and/or target and go over them thoroughly. Much better on the eyes than looking at a screen all the time.

I use whatever I reach first for my notes. No other purpose for a pen while translating. Underlingning? Are you kidding?
