English to Arabic: Fierce fighting reported in Syria's Aleppo General field: Other Detailed field: Journalism
Source text - English Fierce fighting reported in Syria's Aleppo
Syrian rebels have unleashed an unprecedented barrage of mortar fire against government troops in Aleppo after announcing a "decisive" battle for Syria's second city, residents and activists say.
Shells crashed down at a steady rate and clashes were widespread on Friday, leaving layers of dust and smoke over Aleppo, according to the residents and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
"The fighting is unprecedented and has not stopped since Thursday. The clashes used to be limited to one or two blocks of a district, but now the fighting is on several fronts," the SOHR's Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP news agency.
The accounts of violence could not be independently verified by Al Jazeera as Syria restricts access for journalists.
The new offensive came as Leon Panetta, the US defence secretary, said that the Syrian regime has moved some of its chemical weapons to safeguard the material.
Panetta, citing US intelligence, said in Washington DC on Friday that he believes that the main storage sites for Syria’s arsenal remain secure.
"There has been some intelligence that with regards to some of these sites, that there has been some movement in order for the Syrians to better secure ... the chemicals," he said.
US officials believe Syria potentially has dozens of chemical and biological weapons sites scattered across the country. Its stockpiles are thought to include nerve agents such as VX, sarin and tabun.
Translation - Arabic .
General field: Other Detailed field: Journalism
Source text - Arabic
Translation - English France Threatens Those Creating Disorder in the Name of Islam.
Manuel Valls, the French interior minister, threatened that he would banish anyone causing public disorder in France in the name of Islam.
He also said, while inaugurating the Strasbourg Great mosque in the eastern France, that French authorities would not think twice about “expelling those who pretend to defend Islam and represent A serious threat to the public order, and those foreigners in our country who do not respect our laws and values.”
Valls also warned that “the French Republic will exclude those implanting hatred, espousing backwardness and fundamentalists who disrespect our values and institutions, and ignore women’s rights.”
“Racism and extremism have no room in Islam” he added.
He, however, mentioned that you do not have to give up your religious practices or to deny your origins to live and be like any other French citizen.
It is worth mentioning that Valls’ warning came in response to demands to protest against the film and the cartoons denigrating the prophet (peace be upon him.) although French authorities ordered a ban on demonstrations.
Yet, these protests have gained the support of only a few dozens of people.
The Strasbourg mosque, which can hold 1500 worshippers, is the biggest in France and the fifth mosque being inaugurated this year in the country.
The construction works of the mosque were discontinued for two years when the Conservatives came to office, and did not resume until 2008.
The inauguration ceremony of the mosque marked the presence of a representative of the French president, François Holland, who is visiting New-York, and the absence of the French Prime Minister, Marc Ayrault.
The mosque cost 10.5 million Euros. Strasbourg contributed 26% of the costs, Morocco four million Euros, Saudi Arabia one million Euros, Kuwait 500.000 Euros, and the rest came from individual contributions.
