You Can Control Asthma!

Asthma can be controlled.
Taking the right medicine at the right time will keep asthma under control.
Not all people with asthma take the same medicine.
Your doctor or your child’s doctor decides which ones are right.
There are two types:
{ut1}- {ut2}Long-term control medicines{ut3} are taken each day, even if you or your child feels good.
They help control swelling and mucus in the airways, and decrease asthma flare-ups.
{ut1}- {ut2}Quick-relief medicines{ut3} are taken during an asthma flare-up.
They help control symptoms, but should not be used a lot.
Tell your doctor if you or your child uses them a lot.
The medicines may need to be changed.
Have an Asthma Action Plan
{ut1}Everyone with asthma should have an {ut2}asthma action plan{ut3}.
This written plan will help you know what to do during an asthma emergency for yourself or your child.
This tells how to deal with asthma symptoms and what medicine to take and when to take it. It also tells when to go to a doctor or when to get urgent care.
You and your doctor or your child’s doctor will make this plan together.
{ut1}Keep a copy of your asthma action plan at work, your child’s school, and other places where you or your child spends a lot of time.
Talk about the asthma action plan during the next doctor visit.
