Most pre-packaged CRMs have a built-in opportunity management workflow engine. It is designed to help implement “best practice” opportunity management activities. It can analyze competitor and market data and identify existing opportunities by pre-configured geographical or demographical criteria. It puts all the opportunities in a list or pipeline view, and automatically assigns a probability percentage of the deal closing based on the opportunity “sales stage” data value. CRM also places customer contact records in one repository and tags them with the different roles they play in the purchase decision-making processes, and keeps all related communication (emails, faxes, mail, or even phone call recordings). These functions help the company identify the “primary” or “premium” potential customers as sales leads, and allow the company to design nurturing paths or create campaign mapping for different potential customer groups. Most CRMs can also notify a salesperson of any new lead and automatically schedule a series of follow-up activities to the assigned salesperson.
