Occasionally when necessary, I may have to talk about some of the grammar rules since they would help us understand source texts and render them correctly into target languages, and they would also help us avoid personal misunderstandings, as shown in this discussion so far.

QHE wrote: ysun wrote: 你这次修改后的版本中,"Hanging over" 形容的仍然是 "The birds";你用的那个 semicolon 照样是错的。我前面提供的那些参考链接看来都是白费了! Those links provide useful information about some basic rules of English grammar. I am sure that most of the colleagues here are also quite familiar with these basics. Besides, I think we should understand the difference between "hang over" (phrasal verb) and "hangover" (noun) before we can use them correctly. Hangover (noun) http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/hangover hang‧o‧ver /ˈhæŋəʊvə $ -oʊvər/ ●○○ noun [countable] 1 a pain in your head and a feeling of sickness that you get the day after you have drunk too much alcohol I had a terrible hangover the next day. Hang over (phrasal verb) http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/hang-over hang over something/somebody if something bad is hanging over you, you are worried or anxious about it The threat of redundancy was still hanging over us. It’s not very nice to have huge debts hanging over your head. It is incorrect to say that "They were hanging over this morning, unaware of dawning". However, it is all right to say that "They were hungover this morning, unaware of dawning" (meaning they felt ill this morning because they drank too much alcohol last night). ----------------------------------------------- Another example of hanging over: Hanging over his head, the sword was tied up with the hair of a horse. It is the sword (not he, nor the horse) that was hanging over his head. ysun wrote: You will see more clearly what I mean if you read the following about the use of present participle as an adverbial clause: https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/quick-grammar/participle-clauses Participle clauses Participle clauses are a form of adverbial clause which enables us to say information in a more economical way. We can use participle clauses when the participle and the verb in the main clause have the same subject. For example: Waiting for John, I made some tea. Waiting for John, the kettle boiled. [This would suggest that the kettle was waiting for John!]

Grammatically, I believe this sentence is correct.
